Unit 7: The Tens & Ones Patterns in a Grid
Year 1
Students need this knowledge first
I know that in the twenty-numbers, the 'twenty' part stays the same and the ones part changes — Unit 3: Counting to 30
I can look down a column of the 0-99 grid and say what stays the same about every number in it
I can look across a row of the 0-99 grid and say what stays the same about every number in it
I can fill in a blank cell in the 0-99 grid using the column and row patterns, without counting
I can place a number in the 0-99 grid by finding its column from the right-hand digit and its row from the left-hand digit
Success Criteria
Lesson 1: Learning the Patterns
We are learning that every number in a column of the 0-99 grid shares the same right-hand digit, and every number in a row shares the same left-hand digit.
Learning Intention
Learning Sequence

I can use one or two anchor numbers on a piece of the 0-99 grid to work out where that piece sits
I can fill in the missing numbers on a fragment of the 0-99 grid using the digit patterns, without needing the full grid
I can fill an irregular shaped piece of the 0-99 grid, using the column pattern one way and the row pattern the other
I can check my filled-in 0-99 grid piece against the patterns rather than just guessing
Success Criteria
Lesson 2: Applying the Patterns
We are learning to use the column and row patterns to fill in a piece of the grid without seeing the whole grid.
