About The Y Intercept
How to connect with the Community
Yes. Foundation and Year 1 are complete, and every Victorian Curriculum 2.0 code for those year levels is covered within its year. Year 2 onwards is in build.
Each unit clearly identifies the code or codes it addresses, so you can report against VC2.0 without doing any mapping work yourself.
The order in which the learning intentions are covered has been developed by The Y Intercept over more than a decade of trialling and testing, so that the sequence runs without gaps and misconceptions are prevented rather than addressed as they arise.
Units are ordered by what students need to be able to do before the next unit starts, rather than by the order in which the content descriptions are listed.
Curriculum documents set out what students should learn by the end of a year and give no guidance on the order in which to teach it. Ordering is left to each school, and it is the decision that most affects how prepared students are to learn the next lesson or unit. Applying the curriculum codes after the learning progression is settled means the order is built on what students need, whilst meeting curriculum requirements.
Ideally, start at the beginning of 2027 with Foundation. Year 1 also works as an entry point, though teachers will need to address any Foundation prior knowledge the class is missing. Every Year 1 unit states its prior knowledge clearly and links directly to the Foundation units and lessons that teach it, so the material is there and ready to use rather than something you have to go looking for.
Starting part way through a year level is fine, however, it will give much the same outcome as a typical yearly structure does. A class joining midway has not been taught the sequence leading up to that exact point, so the cognitive load demands that have been carefully managed across every unit and lesson become a hope rather than a design.
